Gut Loving Blueberry Cauliflower Smoothie

I hear you…this combination sounds a little daunting/ foreign/ odd/ slightly weird, however I can assure you that it’s actually not, and it tastes divine! (Just like a fresh berry smoothie). So please look past the fact that it contains cauliflower and think of that as more of a frozen creamy addition…yum!

The frozen veggies and fruit mean that you get more of an ice-cream texture and the fact they are frozen means that you can’t taste them as you would if they were raw and fresh. Also frozen veg is not to be sniffed at, it is a great way to lock in nutrients while the vegetables are still fresh! You could either lightly steam and freeze your own or buy frozen packs from the supermarket. Always try and get organic.

The cauliflower makes the smoothie really creamy. Also forming part of the cruciferous family along with broccoli means these 2 veggies are extremely beneficial to your health. They contain something called indole-3-carbinol which helps the liver to detoxify harmful toxins and excesses of oestrogen. So great for hormone balancing. It also makes it so easy to achieve your 10 a day servings of fruit and veg.

The beetroot powder contains betaine which is needed for stomach acid production, without enough stomach acid, food cannot be broken down and nasty bugs are allowed to enter where they would usually be killed by stomach acid. Beetroot also contains nitric oxide which lowers high blood pressure!

Maca powder is an adaptogenic herb, it is great for reducing stress and supporting the adrenal glands and hormones.

The cinnamon is anti-fungal and also helps balance blood sugar levels, reducing sugar cravings.

And the star of the show… the collagen powder! This stuff is seriously good skin food, making your complexion glow. You should notice a real difference in your skin after using collagen powder for about 2 weeks.  It also is essential for healing a leaky gut which may be caused by many factors including antibiotic use, oral contraceptive use, candida, parasites etc. it helps to protect your joints and improves liver function as well. It is also high in protein! (I buy Great Lakes Collagen and get it on Amazon). Oh and you can not taste it at all in a smoothie!

I hope you enjoy this superfood smoothie, knowing that it is nourishing you’re your beautiful body from the inside out.

Gut loving blueberry and Cauliflower Smoothie

Ingredients

3 frozen cauli florets

½ frozen banana

1 handful of blueberries

1 tsp beetroot powder

1 tsp maca powder

1 tsp almond butter

1-2 tbsp collagen powder

1 tsp cinnamon

1 cup of liquid – I use coconut milk

Method

Blend everything together in your Nutribullet. This will form quite a solid smoothie at first, so great to make a smoothie bowl with as I did below and top with seeds, nuts etc. However if you leave it a bit it will melt and be more of a drinkable smoothie. If you avoid bananas, you can sub for another frozen fruit or more blueberries.
