I work to establish the root cause of a clients symptoms. This involves taking a detailed case history and looking for triggers to peoples symptoms such as antibiotic usage, toxin exposure, genetics, lifestyle factors, gut microbiome, diet, medications, stress levels etc. To help me do this I sometimes use functional testing where appropriate such as stool testing, hormone testing, food intolerance testing, genetic testing etc.
As an example, we may find that someone has a genetic polymorphism in certain liver enzymes, which means that they are not breaking down and excreting oestrogen as they should, which means that they have a hormone imbalance which is causing mood problems, bloating and acne.
With this information, we can tailor a diet and supplements that supports healthy oestrogen metabolism via nutrigenomics.
Or another example is that we may do a stool test to find that there are harmful bacteria present, types that can affect the body’s ability to excrete hormones via the gut, and this may explain someone’s PMS symptoms, so we would work to eliminate that bacteria.
These are things that doctors do not look at, so people often suffer for years without getting to the root cause of the symptoms.
I do of course look at peoples food diaries too.
Following a consultation I provide a bespoke detailed protocol for each client which is individualised based on their symptoms and goals, this includes dietary modifications, lifestyle changes and supplements if necessary.
